Transformational Overseas Experience
As a student, I participated in an education abroad program that visited the Dominican Republic during my senior year. This program was centered around environmental sustainability and renewable resources. My time in the Dominican Republic opened my eyes to how similar people really are. The problems we face, the things we care about and the way we see the world really doesn’t vary as much as I may have thought previously. It was a great way to see genuine efforts being made in another country to take care of our planet. My time abroad also helped me feel more adaptable and confident in new situations upon my return. My experience makes my work in education abroad more rewarding because I know how positive of an experience it is for every student who decides to take that first step out of their own comfort zone.
