Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership
Agricultural Communication
Killbuck, OH
Kylie Ramirez started her college career in the College of Food Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at Ohio State ATI on the CFAES Wooster campus, where she received an associate degree. Her nominator said Kylie “excels academically, is involved in her community, possesses strong leadership skills, takes initiative, has a big heart, and never complains about any of the hard work that it takes for her to do all that she does.”
A first-generation college student, Kylie has developed a passion for her field of agricultural communication. While at ATI, she served as student visit coordinator, where she managed the schedule for prospective student visits, and assisted with admissions events and social media. She credits her mentor, Elizabeth Helterbrand, and her advisor, Dr. Joy Rumble, both at Wooster, for encouraging her successful transition to the Columbus campus.
Another element of her success is her involvement in organizations such as Alpha Sigma Upsilon, where she served as the new member educator, alumni relations chair, and risk manager. She believes this sorority has taught her professionalism, dedication, and time management. She also participated in the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow Club, serving as public relations chair and secretary.
Four years ago, Kylie created the Be You Livestock Show, to offer disabled individuals in Holmes County and beyond experiences in agriculture. Participants show livestock without the burdensome investment of raising and caring for the animals. She also runs her own photography business, taking pictures for peers, campus groups, and industry stakeholders. Some of her photos are currently in the Thompson Library in an exhibit of Regenerative BIPOC Farmers.
Kylie served as a communications intern with the Ohio Pork Council in New Albany, Ohio and the Harvest Ridge Event Center in Millersburg, Ohio. While with the Ohio Pork Council, she developed and installed branded signage for the Ohio State Fair Taste of Ohio Cafe, coordinated volunteer groups, managed social media content, and wrote weekly newsletters. At Harvest Ridge, she created pre-event plans for clients, and managed logistics and promotions.
She has also served the Department of Agricultural Education, Communication, and Leadership as communications and recruitment assistant. According to her nominator, Kylie regularly encourages involvement and action among her peers. . “Kylie’s presence and leadership in our college has made CFAES a better place, both in Wooster and Columbus. She often has worked behind the scenes, sending emails, planning events, and taking photographs.”
Her career goals include returning to Ohio State to serve the CFAES as a student recruitment professional.
