For many years CFAES has valued the importance of annually recognizing the College's top seniors. This recognition is currently called the CFAES Distinguished Senior Award, but has been called by many different names since the recognition's conception in 1954. As recently as 2018, the recognition was called the CFAES Outstanding Senior Awards.
The former CFAES Outstanding Senior Awards recognized students who:
- excelled throughout their undergraduate experience (within and outside the classroom) in the areas of academics, service, and influence
- could articulate how their experiences and accomplishments prepared them to enter their profession and become a contributing member to meet ever-changing professional challenges and societal needs
- demonstrated growth, as students and future professionals, through accomplishments made within their department, college, university, community, and future profession
Award winners were selected through a competitive, self-nomination process, and were evaluated by the Award Selection Panel, comprised of faculty from each unit in the College. The Panel looked for excellence in individuals who demonstrated personal and professional growth in the areas of academic scholarship, student organization leadership, and involvement in the university and the broader community.

1954 - 1966: While the earliest version of the Distinguished Senior Award was presented in 1954, the programs from 1954 - 1966 do not list the names of the award recipients. Unfortunately, as a result, the names of the recipients for these years are unknown. The first documented names in connection to the award were listed in the 1967 program, linked above.
