Clubs and student organizations were a major part of Claire Meyer’s undergraduate experience. As a member of Sigma Alpha Professional Agricultural Sorority since her sophomore year, Claire has held several leadership positions within the organization,
including the 1st Vice Presidency, Young Leaders Conference Co-chair, and Bylaws Delegate. During her time in Sigma Alpha, Claire and her fellow members planned and implemented a number of policy changes designed to improve the organization
for future members. Claire was instrumental in revising and reformatting the group’sbylaws to redefine committee roles, reflect new chapter standards, and promote a new culture of leadership and professional skill development within the group. Claire
reflected, “Watching my sisters continue to set goals for themselves, promote the values our chapter was founded on, and work to succeed in their careers has been my most rewarding experience during my undergraduate career.” Claire was also an active member of Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow and Agribusiness Club throughout her undergraduate career.

Her Summer 2022 internship with the Wood County Fair Board in Bowling Green, OH, offered Claire her greatest sense of accomplishment. As a Communications and Public Relations Intern, Claire worked with board members to plan social media content throughout the summer, created advertisements for print and digital media, and ran the fair’s social media pages. She was amazed and proud to see and hear the positive impact her work had on both those attending the fair and those who could not physically attend the event. She will continue her work with the Wood County Fair Board this summer.

As an Administrative Intern for AgCredit in Fostoria, OH, Claire worked interdepartmentally, assisting the marketing department in the creation of new social media content, designing and implementing an online form organization system for the operations department, and supporting the human resources and accounting departments as needed. She independently developed and delivered training materials for AgCredit employees who would continue to utilize her newly designed systems after her
departure.

Claire acknowledges Dr. Annie Specht as her mentor and shares the following: “Dr. Specht has been my advisor since I changed my major in the Spring of 2020 from Agribusiness and Applied Economics to Agricultural Communication. My major change was during the pandemic, right after we were all sent home, which was daunting in and of itself with so many unknowns, but when I reached out to Dr. Specht, she was so encouraging and helpful throughout the transition. Since then, I know I made the right decision. She has been a mentor to whom I know I can reach out with any and all questions relating to classes or professional life, and I know she continues to go above and beyond for all of her students.”

After graduation, Claire hopes to work within the agriculture industry as a communications and marketing professional, where she looks forward to sharing her lifelong passion for agricultural advocacy with others.
