Meredith Oglesby’s most valuable undergraduate learning experience has been her involvement in the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT). Through this organization, Meredith volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, donated to Tacos for Texas during Hurricane Harvey, and devoted time to other service projects. ACT has helped Meredith build on her classroom learning by bringing that knowledge to life.
The experiences Meredith has found the most rewarding were her education abroad experiences. Meredith traveled to Nicaragua, Australia, Brazil, and England and Scotland. She loved learning about agriculture and the environment on a global scale.
Meredith is proud to be the editor for the AgriNaturalist magazine this year, a publication produced by senior agricultural communication students. It features engaging stories about agriculture and the CFAES community. Meredith conducted undergraduate research with Dr. Emily Buck, which focused on social media engagement rates. Meredith is currently working for the Sustainability Institute at Ohio State. She is also writing for Ohio’s Country Journal & Ohio Ag Net as an Ohio FFA Reporter.
While interning with the Ohio Association of Foodbanks, Meredith provided communication support as the staff worked to advocate for increased funding for the Ohio budget. Meredith also interned with the Ohio AgriBusiness Association where she provided communication support and general office administration.
The recognition Meredith received as an undergraduate include: Dean’s List | Alpha Zeta Partners Outstanding First Year Member | Alpha Zeta Partners Agricultural Honorary Member | Bucket and Dipper Junior Honorary Member | Farm Credit Mid-America Scholar | American FFA Degree | Distinguished Senior, Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership.
Meredith’s extensive list of volunteering and community service activities include leadership roles and involvement with Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow, serving as a CFAES Ambassador, as well as being a member of Alpha Zeta Partners. Meredith is also a member of the Young Ag Professionals with Ohio Farm Bureau, Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association, and the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association. She has volunteered at the Mid-Ohio Foodbank and been a part of the CFAES Learning Community. Meredith has been a member of the CFAES Student Council and served on the CFAES Banquet Planning Committee. She served as the Ohio FFA State Vice President and represented Ohio FFA on the Ohio State Fair Junior Fair Board.
Meredith has applied to the University of Florida, University of Georgia, and Kansas State University for graduate school. She is planning to study agricultural communication with a focus in food security and nonprofit studies.
Dr. Emily Buck has helped Meredith from her start at Ohio State, making her a perfect fit to be recognized as Meredith’s mentor. Through the challenges of navigating a large university, to helping Meredith find her place within CFAES, Dr. Buck has encouraged and supported her. Dr. Buck always encouraged Meredith to take advantage of opportunities that would be both fun and beneficial in gaining agricultural communication skills. Meredith appreciates Dr. Buck’s role as her academic advisor, as well as support as she traveled with her for ACT conferences and a spring break photography trip to England and Scotland.
