  1. OSU Student Construction Management Team Takes Overall First Place at 2013 ABC National Competition

    COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Ohio State University’s Student Construction Management Team recently returned from the ABC National Competition in Birmingham, Alabama where they earned an Overall First Place National Championship while competing amongst 13 (thirteen) of the top CM programs in the country. The Student Construction Management Team was led by six pre-selected CSM students – Derek Goettemoeller (Team Captain), Trevor Bunevich (Co-Captain), Shane Mouser, Todd Heitkamp, Jeremy Severs and Andrew Gest.

  2. 'Our future depends on cultural intelligence'

    On April 12, CFAES, in partnership with several other units on Ohio State's Columbus campus, hosted the second annual Diversity Leadership Symposium. This year's focus was on cultural competence. David Livermore delivered the keynote talk on identifying and strengthening cultural intelligence. He also delivered one of the three breakout sessions offered in the morning. More than 130 people participated in the event, an increase from last year's 90.

  4. ATI is a Power House at this year's Ohio Beef Expo

    Eight Ohio State ATI students participated in the Ohio Beef Expo and Murray Grey Show in Columbus March 14-15. The students who helped prepare and show the animals were Tina Cundiff, Cheyenne Jepsen, Ashley Lewis, Jamie Stottlemyer, Nicole Swavel, Austin Douglass, Russ Sprague, and Denver Thomas. They took four Murray Greys: a 3-year-old old bull; two, 2-year-old heifers; and one aged cow. The results:

  5. Teacher at Sea: Stone Lab's Greene to sail with NOAA

    Stone Lab Education Associate Angela Greene has been selected as one of 28 teachers from across the U.S. who will participate in the 2013 Teacher at Sea Program. Sponsored by the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the program allows kindergarten through college-level teachers to sail on a NOAA ship, where they work directly with onboard scientists and crew before taking their experience back to the classroom.

  6. Transitioning family farms to the next generation

    Only 16.5 percent of family businesses, including family farms, survive to a third generation, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration. And 39 percent of U.S. farmland is owned by those 65 and older, with fewer than 30 percent having identified a successor.

    An OSU Extension program is working to ensure smooth transitions of family farm businesses to the next generation.

  7. Big hats, big fun, big crowd: CFAES Recognition Program

    The CFAES Recognition Program is a highlight event of the academic year. It is also one of the largest student-run events on the Ohio State campus. Entirely planned and produced by a student committee, more than 600 guests attend each year -- our students and their families, our faculty and staff, and friends of the college.

     This year's banquet, whose theme was "The Winners' Circle: Big Hats, Big Fun," was held April 4 at the Ohio Union in Columbus with numerous award winners announced, as students, faculty, and staff were honored for their accomplishments.

    "How Food Impacts Human Health" was the theme of OARDC's 2013 Annual Research Conference, which took place in the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center in Columbus April 25.

  9. Gone (or soon to be going) fishing: Charter captains prep for new season, new teaching

    Ohio Sea Grant's annual Charter Captains Conference has become a tradition for Lake Erie charter boat captains, with many attendees regularly returning for the latest updates on Lake Erie fishing, regulations, and business opportunities. This year's conference was no exception, with more than half  the 168 attendees indicating that they had been to a previous conference.

  10. Ohio State, led by CFAES, wins Environmental March Madness

    Ohio State didn't win this year's men's college basketball championship, dropping a close game March 30 in the tournament's Elite Eight. But the next week the Scarlet and Gray scored a different, green-colored national title.
