    To encourage the pursuit of careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and agriculture, Monsanto awarded scholarships totaling $250,000 to 10 students this fall through the Monsanto Graduate Student Scholarship program. The Monsanto Graduate Student Scholarship and the Monsanto STEM Fellowship is awarded to high-achieving minority students who are pursuing either a Master’s degree or PhD in STEM or other agricultural related fields. Each of the graduate scholarship recipients will receive $25,000.

    Top 10 Peace Corps' List: The Ohio State University

    For the fourth year in a row, Ohio State ranks in the top 10 on the Peace Corps’ list of the top volunteer-producing large universities. Currently, 42 Ohio State graduates are making a difference around the world as volunteers, putting the university at No. 10 on the agency’s 2016 list.

    Ohio State’s Peace Corps office is housed in CFAES’s International Programs in Agriculture office.

    Interim CFAES Dean Ron Hendrick, a Michigan State University alumnus, has been recommended as dean of MSU’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. If approved by the MSU Board of Trustees, his appointment will be effective July 1.

    “I’m excited to welcome Dr. Hendrick back to MSU as the next dean of our College of Agriculture and Natural Resources,” said MSU Provost June Pierce Youatt. “His strong leadership experience and ambitions for the future of CANR will benefit not only the college, but the entire university.”

    Sydney Snider, a CFAES Agricultural Communication major from Moscow, Ohio, was recently elected eastern region vice president for FFA. She’ll serve on the 2015-16 National FFA Officer team along with students from Arkansas, Tennessee, Iowa, Georgia and Utah.

    The new team was elected on Oct. 31 in Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky, during the 88th National FFA Convention & Expo.

    The Back 2 School Bash, hosted by the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES), provides a unique opportunity for students to get excited about the school year beginning. For first year, transfer, and transition students, the event allows students to get acquainted with the faculty, clubs, and their classmates within CFAES. For returning students and upper classmen, the evening serves as a way for them to be welcomed back to school.
