Pelotonia is a grassroots bike tour with one goal: end cancer. In 2013, Pelotonia was one of the largest cycling events in the country, with 6,723 riders coming from 41 states and nine countries. Additionally, Pelotonia had 3,482 virtual riders and 2,445 registered volunteers. Pelotonia 13 raised $19 million, bringing Pelotonia's five-year total to $61.3 million for cancer research.
The Pelotonia 14 experience will occur Aug. 8-10, with the ride spanning two days and covering as many as 180 miles. One hundred percent of every dollar raised is donated directly to life-saving cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center -- Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.
In 2012, the BSR Animal Sciences Peloton kicked into gear to connect Animal Sciences undergraduate and graduate students in support of cancer research. Recently, the BSR Animal Sciences Peloton has expanded its enrollment to students throughout CFAES and has taken on the new name of BSR -- Growing Tomorrow's Cure. As a community of agricultural and environmental sciences students, we are riding together and raising money to defeat cancer here at Ohio State.
Each person has a different story about how cancer has impacted their life; this ride is in honor of those who have struggled with cancer in the hopes of a better tomorrow.
The last couple of years have been great experiences, and we hope to grow in number and impact this year, welcoming any volunteers or virtual riders who would like to help with the ride as well.
