Information Session for Summer 2019 Program - India: Food Production and Manufacturing Systems in an Emerging Economy

The goal of the India education abroad program is to provide students a combination of lecture and field-based experience that will educate them about agriculture and engineering sectors of India, an emerging economy. During the program, students will visit national agricultural, food, biomedical, and manufacturing facilities (see below for more details) and Punjab Agricultural University.  These activities will provide students with an overview of food and manufacturing systems in India. Students will also have extensive exposure to Indian culture through visits to heritage and cultural sites.  Here are a few companies/organizations/cultural sites students will visit: Jain Irrigation Systems Limited, BMVSS (Jaipur Foot), Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Taj Mahal, Gandhi Museum, Lotus Temple, Qutub Minar, and Golden Temple.
 
At the conclusion of the course students will be able to:

  • understand the interdisciplinary nature of India’s Agricultural, Food, Biomedical, and Manufacturing industries;
  • compare and contrast India’s industrial sectors through on-site visits;
  • identify aspects of research and design in India that make it unique by visiting premier scientific research institutes;
  • practice skills that demonstrate intellectual/personal maturity, self-confidence, and cross-cultural understanding through interactions with entrepreneurs, engineers, and service-learning.
