Orientation

New First-Year Students in CFAES: What to Expect

Note: Due to safety concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic, summer orientation programs for students entering the Summer or Autumn 2021 semester will be delivered remotely. You will be invited to participate in an Orientation Carmen course with fellow First-Year students in CFAES. The Carmen course is where you will access information, resources, activities, advising presentations, and participate in discussions with students and staff. 

Academic Session on Day One

On the afternoon of the first day of orientation, you will participate in a Carmen Zoom session led by CFAES Academic Programs staff. Some of the topics we will cover are:

  • General information about our college and the majors we offer
  • Academic Advising
  • The basic components of an Ohio State degree
  • The process of creating your first-semester schedule
  • FAES 1100 (Survey)


Academic Session on Day Two

On the second day of orientation, you will:

  • Meet with an advisor for a virtual one-on-one advising appointment
  • Discuss your first-semester schedule
  • Schedule your classes
