- Cum laude: 3.50-3.69 CPHR (Cumulative Point-Hour Ratio)
- Magna cum laude: 3.70-3.89 CPHR
- Summa cum laude: 3.90 or above CPHR
Students meeting the GPA requirements above, with at least 60 semester hours of work completed at Ohio State, are eligible for Latin Honors awarded by the university. Criteria for Latin Honors are reviewed and applied in the semester preceding graduation, and again when grades are received for the final semester and all degree requirements have been met. Some students may first qualify for Latin honors after receiving grades in their final semester.
Latin Honors are automatically awarded to eligible students; graduating students do not need to take any additional action. Students successfully meeting these qualifications are given a scarlet and gray honors cord by the college to wear at Commencement.
Graduating with Honors Research Distinction (Honors Program Members)
Honors Research Distinction is granted only to those students participating in the Honors Program. Upon recommendation of the Honors Examining Committee and attainment of at least a 3.40 point-hour ratio and a 3.5 GPA in the major, students must complete a research project, present at the CFAES and Denman Research Forums, and upload their written project to Knowledge Bank. Then a graduating honors program student may be awarded the degree sought with distinction in the major field of study with the diploma so inscribed.
Students successfully meeting these qualifications are given a scarlet and gray honors cord by the college to wear at Commencement.
